Books

I decided to become a member of Christianbooks.com.  That's my small way of being in rebellion to Amazon. Even though I am a Prime member, I still feel like I have to do  a small part to support other non Amazon booksellers.  I'll see how it goes.

But I received their book catalog and it's amazing. It makes me kind of interested in starting an online bookshop with a paper catalog.   It's just that I know people aren't really interested in buying physical books anymore.  Just a small/large huddle.

Anyways, can't wait till my books come in!

My love hate relationship with Facebook continues.  I'm back on, but I'm not really sure why or for how long I'll stay. It's nice to see pictures and updates and I'm trying to be happy for all 500 of my friends. Although I haven't talked to about 450 of them in the last 5 years, but that doesn't mean we are not friends. Just that we don't talk and I don't have their phone number or anyway to really know how they are doing. But the pictures are really cute though.

Bring Back our Girls

I always forget how much I hate rejection, until I receive one! 2016 is such a year of uncertainity. Possibilities but uncertainity.  Will this be the year I finally get to plan a wedding? Will I be moving to a different city? Getting a new job? Don't know! And that is my personal update.

Life is always full of bittersweet news. 2 years ago 276 girls were kidnapped from their school in Chibok Nigeria. The government ignored it, but a group of courageous individuals refused to let this crisis be ignored. They organized, they protested, even at risk to themselves and finally this issue was brought to the world's attention. I hoped this meant that now that it had international attention, the girls would be found quickly and returned home. But months passed, nothing happened and the issue faded from our attention. 

Now it's been over 2 years since the kidnapping. They are still missing.  I started looking around for information and ideas of what I could do to help. I can't travel to Chibok or Abuja. But that's the wonderful thing about the internet.  If you search you can  find.  So now I have a long list of ways I can do something. And hopefully if a few of us do what we can and raise our collective voices, justice will finally be served and the Chibok girls rescued.

April Fools!

This post wasn't written on April Fools, but since it's close enough and I couldn't think of a title...

I hate watching scary movies. But sometimes the story is so good I can't help but keep watching. I know someone is going to die or get shot or something horrible and yet I can't look away.  That's what it's been like with the presidential elections. We are still months away and yet the candidates continue to surprise us. November needs to come soon so this drama can subside.

Whatever is beneficial...

I really enjoy giving advice and telling other people what to do.  But then there comes this moment when you realize that maybe you are the one that needs that particular advice.

I was having a conversation with a good friend. And I said, you always have to ask yourself why you are doing something. Longevity is not necessarily a reason to keep doing something.  In light of that I started evaluating if I should keep blogging.  When I originally started I wanted this to be a sort of online diary/journal.  It would also serve as a place where I could practice my writing and hopefully start improving.  In addition when I finally had the time and energy to write my memoirs/ autobiography I would have a place to go to collect my thoughts.  Last but not least, I thought it might be an easy way to keep in touch with friends near and fear.

In the past few years, it's been really hard for me to blog consistently. Either because I was tired, or sad/depressed or because I wasn't able to share easily about the things I was going through, whether good or bad. And so what I'm able to put on this blog became very narrow, and I feel not particularly interesting. Moreover, I don't have that many readers so it's like I'm writing these kind of vague updates to one or two people.  So I don't know if I should a) stop the blog since it's not really fulfilling its purposes, b) revamp the blog and change it's focus and purpose.

On another note, I attended a wedding yesterday. I experienced many firsts. The most striking was we ate before the wedding ceremony, which was pretty nice.  Secondly, I don't believe a single bible verse was read or quoted during the ceremony. I definitely missed the bible verses and a solid biblical exhortation.

San Bernardino

I would like to confess that I am one of the many people who did not know the correct spelling of San Bernardino until the horrific attacks that happened last year.

2015!

This has definitely been an interesting year.  I had the chance to travel to Nigeria twice!! Spent a lot of time with family in different settings. Although it's had it's ups and downs, it's been filled with a year long wait. Which hasn't been easy.  But I think God is teaching me that anything good is worth waiting for, and good things improve with time.

I have no idea where 2016 will take me, but I'm hopeful that my beau and I will set up a house somewhere, make new friends together, find a new church together and just in general do stuff together every day. This will be a lot easier when we live in the same city and even the same house.

2016 is the year I hope I finally get to have a celebration in church in the US with my beau.  I'm praying that the US immigration process speeds up just a little so this can happen soon.   If you are the praying sort, please be praying for us! And I also hope to update this blog more in the coming year.

Many significant things happened this year, but in a strange way I don't want to write about it here. I hope if you are reading this, I'll have a chance to tell you in person.  So that leaves me with talking about what no one is interested in when I have face to face conversations.  I finally cancelled my monthly cell phone plan. I activated my old Sprint smartphones on freedompop.com and ringplus.net.  This means I have two cell phone plans, and best of all they are both free. This is something I've wanted for years and I had no idea it was possible. At best I was hoping to pay$30/month, but now I'm down to $0/month. My best Christmas gift to myself.
