Hope

Yesterday we held an information session for people interested in going to New Orleans to serve in the relief and rebuilding work. It was so much fun to see that people are interested in serving in an area where the need is so great. I was worried that after the initial month or so after the hurricane, New Orleans would be forgotten. But I am so glad to see that this is not the case. So many people realize that we need to contribute to helping those who have lost so much. And yeah politics and mismangement is holding up the recovery process. Yet, there is so much hope because churches have to come together in a new way to pray and serve together, and that is an awesome picture.

On Sunday, the pastor gave a really awesome message about the vision of the church. Instead of seeking to plant a church in the suburbs with people who are pretty similar socioeconomically, they chose to plant the church in the inner city. They had this vision of the church being a place of reconciliation and reflecting the diversity of the city. It's still a mostly Asian church, but every week it becomes more and more diverse and that is exciting. So it was a really good weekend.
